Needs Example:

N.L. contacted us with a request for help.  She is an 80 year old widow.  Her husband passed away six years ago leaving her with a modest estate and a small pension.  She had a son and daughter living nearby, with one son out of state.  Her husband had, in typical fashion, been the caretaker of the finances and after his passing she and her local son decided that she should sell her home and use the money to have an addition built on to his home in which she could live.

She then explained that her son, rather than building the addition onto his house, squandered the money with his wife, spending it all on themselves instead.  N.L. lived in the basement of his house the entire time, always expecting the addition to take place.  Furthermore, as time went on the son and his wife decided that N.L. should begin to pay rent in order to continue living in their house.  He became agitated and passively aggressive toward N.L. insisting that she should pay rent and to 'behave'.

N.L. was only supported by her social security and her husband's small pension.  She had no other savings.  She felt ashamed and she felt she had no means to move out of his house to go someplace else.  She then contacted the Retirement Resource Organization for help.

After taking preventive measures to protect her from potential physical/emotional abuse from her local son we were able to arrange for involvement of her daughter and out-of-state son.  N.L. was then provided with funding for the service of multiple legal documents, including a Trust and Durable Powers of Attorney documents, along with other ancillary protective legal documents.  She was additionally provided with assistance with moving out of her local son's residence and into her out-of-state son's southern home.  She is now very happy and very secure in her retirement.

Unfortunately, situations such as this are commonplace in retirement.  Please help us help others!  Donate now and make a difference in someone's life.  From a tear-filled phone call to a satisfied resolution: With your continued support we can make a difference!
